In this poll, just list your favorite Back and Side Wood. For it's sheer beauty, and for now, it's Cocobolo. Post pics if you can get the little tree to smile on you. (third party host) |

Brazilian... Edit: Ok, I'll break the rules and add that I'm also a big fan of Mahogany, Honduran RW, Black Acacia, Cocobolo, and EIRW. But Bruce said "favorite" not "favorites". Oh, and Koa too. And Tiger Myrtle. I'll stop now... ![]() ![]() |

As a musician, mahogany, and anything in the rosewood species. As a person pretending to be a luthier....dunno yet. I've only worked with rosewood... |

Mahogany of course, Honduran or Cuban, don't mind. Then Walnut, maple, plane, oh and did I say mahogany. These for steel string. I just started on some Mad rose for a Spanish guitar, and on Joshua's recommendation I've got some Cypress which impresses me (having heard Joshua's Issa) so that may become a favourite as well. For lutes I like Yew, Plane, EIR, Maple. Colin |

Plain ol' Spanish Cypress. Just strung a new one up today in fact and this stuff just keeps reaffirming itself to me. |

Just plain ol' East Indian Rosewood. It bends, machines & glues without the difficulties of many other woods & it sounds great! My best sounding instruments are EIR with an Engelmann top... My fave combination to date. Next on the list... Sapele, Koa & Zebrawood. I'm building two Cocobolo guitars now, & who knows... it may blow the others out of the park. |

I'm a real fan of Koa. And, I love maple. Any kind at all. BRW is ok, of course, but not worth selling one's soul. (Then, that goes for any of it, right?) And hey, what IS up with that little non-complying tree? I can't post any pics. Steve |

Maple -after making over 300 guitars I think Jim D'Aquito was right! "Rosewood is for paneling,Maple for guitars" ![]() I have not found a bad B & S wood! The top is more important and of course the whole package of wood thickness and bracing! Work up a good making plan and pay attention to the specifics ! "details, details" This makes guitars !
